Scoring Mechanism

In the EcoVadis scoring system, the performance of ecovadis companies is evaluated on the basis of a combination of four themes: environment, labor and human rights, business ethics, and sustainable procurement. If the score for a theme is less than or equal to 20 points, or if the total score is less than 45 points, the company will not be able to receive any medals.

To be eligible for a medal at the time of the scorecard’s release, companies must meet the following two additional requirements:

• Within the past 3 years, the business has not had a serious 360° negative news story on the environment, labor and human rights, or sustainable sourcing.
• No serious negative 360° news about business ethics within the past 5 years.

It is important to note that the EcoVadis Score and Medal are not a substitute for specific management system certifications, but are simply an assessment tool for the overall social responsibility and sustainability performance of ecovadis companies.

EcoVadis Scorecard Criteria

The EcoVadis platform awards companies with different levels of medals based on their CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) performance. The level of the medals is closely related to the score and the criteria are listed below:

• Platinum Medal: top 1% (score 73-100)
• Gold Medal: top 5% (score 66-72)
• Silver medals: top 25% (score 54-65)
• Bronze medals medals: top 50% (scoring 45-53 points)

Validity of the EcoVadis Scorecard

The EcoVadis Scorecard is valid for 12 months from the date of publication. During this period, a company’s score and assessment results are considered valid. Therefore, the scorecard is valid for one year, which is the optimal length of time to ensure the validity of the data.

How do I earn an award on the EcoVadis platform?

To be eligible for an EcoVadis medal, a business must fulfill both of the following two requirements:

Scoring requirements:

o Bronze: total score between 45 and 53;

o Silver: total score between 54 and 65;

o Gold: total score between 66 and 72;

o Platinum: total score between 73 and 100.

Negative Observation Requirements:

o Enterprises have no more than three total negative observations in any of the three main themes (Environment, Labor and Human Rights, Business Ethics, and Sustainable Sourcing) during the assessment process;

o The enterprise does not have a serious negative observation in any of the themes.

In addition, the enterprise must not have had a serious negative observation in Environment, Labor & Human Rights or Sustainable Procurement within the last three years, and must not have had a serious negative observation in Business Ethics within the last five years.

Therefore, even if a company receives a high score, it may still fail to receive a medal due to negative press or record.

Is there a fee for the EcoVadis platform and what is the ecovadis cost?

There is a platform fee for the EcoVadis platform. First-time ecovadis companies are required to pay the fee before submitting their evidence, and for companies that need to be reassessed or renew their subscription, the fee must be paid before the assessment can be initiated. Fees vary depending on the sector and size of the ecoVadis company and the subscription plan chosen, with ecoVadis pricing ranging from around €400 for small businesses to several thousand euros for larger companies.

What currencies does EcoVadis accept payments in?

The EcoVadis platform supports payments in USD and EUR. Businesses can pay via Alipay, credit card, or in other currencies, but the payment amount and invoice amount will be in USD or EUR. If enterprises use RMB to pay, the EcoVadis platform will provide convenient Alipay code-sweeping payment function.
